G&L Waste Solutions operates under a full waste carrier licence and is authorised to collect most non-hazardous waste – along with certain hazardous items such as paint, gas bottles, TVs, fridges, and freezers. Other dangerous substances like asbestos, oils, and fuel remain prohibited.

So before you book, it’s worth double-checking what’s included – and what isn’t.

1. Asbestos

• Found in older roofs, insulation boards, and shed linings.
  
• Dangerous when disturbed – fibres can cause respiratory illnesses.
  
• Requires specialist removal by HSE-licensed contractors.

2. Fuel & Oils

• Includes petrol, diesel, engine oil, brake fluid, and similar substances.

3. Fluorescent Tubes & Mercury Bulbs

• Contain small amounts of mercury, which is toxic.
  
• Must be processed separately via WEEE recycling systems.

4. Chemicals, Cleaners & Pesticides

• Includes oven cleaners, drain unblockers, weed killers, and pool chemicals.
  
• These can react with other substances or cause burns/spill damage.

5. Medical Waste & Sharps

• Needles, dressings, and expired medication all pose contamination risks.
  
• Clinical waste must be collected via your GP surgery or NHS service.

While some hazardous items are strictly off-limits due to legal and safety regulations, there are a few items that we can remove safely — provided they’re booked in advance and incur a small additional charge for specialist disposal.

These items  include:

✅ Paint Tins (Full or Partially Used)

Although paint is classed as hazardous waste, we are fully licensed to handle and dispose of it responsibly. Just let us know how many tins you have when you book, and we’ll include it in your quote.

✅ Gas Bottles (Butane, Propane, etc.)

We can also take empty or partially used gas bottles. These must be declared in advance, as they require separate handling and incur an additional disposal fee.

✅ Car Batteries

We also accept car batteries as part of your clearance. These are classed as recyclable items and may even carry a small rebate depending on condition and quantity.

Important: These items must be added to your booking at the time of quoting. If not disclosed beforehand, they may be left behind on the day of collection.

We can take almost everything – even some items classed as hazardous – as long as we know about them in advance and they’re booked correctly. However, we still cannot accept certain dangerous materials like asbestos, petrol, oils, and industrial chemicals.

“Will you just leave the hazardous stuff behind?”
If something is outside our license to remove, we’ll set it aside safely and let you know your options. But for items like paint or gas bottles, we’re licensed and ready to take them – just be sure to mention them when booking.

“You’ll take the skip too, right?”

We’re a man and van clearance service, not a skip hire company. We don’t provide or remove skips, but we’re often cheaper and faster than hiring one — especially when skips require permits or aren’t allowed in pedestrian areas.
